An Overview of Roulette Bets
Roulette is a popular casino game whether you play in a real casino or online. New players usually won't face any difficulty when trying to understand roulette except on making bets. We'll discuss the various bets players can make in roulette, the odds, and the payouts
The only challenge roulette poses to new players are the bets we can make. The bets in roulette are classified into two: inside bets and outside bets. Let's discuss each of these and give you an understanding of each bet's odds and payout.
Inside bets are the ones "inside" the layout of numbers on the roulette table. When making inside bets just remember that some casinos have a board minimum. This means that a single bet or the sum of all your bets in a given round should at least add up to that minimum. Let's say the minimum on a roulette table is $10, you can either put all that into one number or spread that out a dollar each to ten numbers.
Here's the inside bets in roulette, we'll start from the simplest one. Picking any of the 37 numbers on the table layout and placing your chip/chips on that number makes a roulette straight-up bet. Odds for this bet are 37 to one, but you get a payout of 35 to one.
The roulette split bet is made by placing your chips on a line in between two adjacent numbers (e.g. seven and eight). This roulette bet has better odds than the straight-up but gives a payout of 17 to one.
A street bet is betting on three numbers in a single horizontal line. Let's say you want to bet on one, two, and three, place your chips on the line at the edge of three. This bet pays out eight to one, but the odds are far better than the split bet.
A roulette corner bet is betting on four adjoining numbers, an example is 10, 11, 13, and 15. Place your chips on the line where the four numbers intersect and that's it. This pays out eight to one.
A roulette square bet is done by placing your chips in between the "0" and three -- should be on the corner (we have not made a distinction between an American or European roulette wheel). With this bet you win if either the 0, one, two, or three comes up. Payout is eight to one.
The outside bets are the following; we'll start with the even money bets:
Low or High - betting that any number from either 1-18 (low) or 19-36 (high) will come up. Black or Red - obviously you're just betting on what color would the ball land. Odd or Even - betting that the ball will land either on an even or odd number.
All these bets pay out one to one.
The next roulette outside bets are the column bets. These bets payout two to one. The columns are labeled as "2 to 1" on the roulette table layout. Any number in the chosen column wins.
On the roulette table layout they're labeled as "1st 12", "2nd 12", and "3rd 12", this means you're betting that any number in a group of a dozen numbers will come up. This bet also pays out two to one.
These are the different bets in roulette. Take time to understand them especially their payouts and odds to make up your strategy. Make your pick and have a great time playing roulette!
